About Us

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela

Guru Gobind Singh ji University College, Jandiala Manjki, has a rich legacy that dates back to 1967 when it was first established as Guru Gobind Singh Republic College. The college was founded through the dedicated efforts of influential figures such as the late Major Swaran Singh Johal, Major Karnail Singh Johal, Head Master Ajit Singh Johal, and Comrade Piara Singh. Their vision was to create an institution that would offer higher education to the youth of the region, helping them achieve personal growth and academic success. Initially a privately managed and affiliated government-aided institution, the college became a significant center of learning for the local community. In 1983, under the leadership of S. Darbara Singh, the college was taken over by the Government of Punjab, marking a new chapter in its journey. However, in the following decades, the college faced several challenges, and due to changing educational policies, it was temporarily closed in 2019.

In 2021, the college underwent a major transformation, becoming a constituent college of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. This move breathed new life into the institution, with Dr. Jaspal Singh Randhawa appointed as the first principal (OSD) under the new governance structure. The college began offering a variety of new courses designed to meet the academic and professional needs of its students. Among the programs introduced were Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), Bachelor of Arts (Humanities), Diploma in Computer Applications, and Diploma in Cosmetology (Beauty Culture). Recognizing the importance of sports and physical education in shaping well-rounded individuals, the college also introduced the Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (B.P.E.S.) course. In the academic session of 2022-2023, the college further expanded its academic offerings by introducing B.Com., B.Sc. (Economics), and Diploma in Professional Accountancy. These additions reflect the institution’s commitment to providing a diverse and dynamic learning environment for its students.

The college is located in Jandiala (Manjki), a central village in the Doaba region of Punjab, which offers easy accessibility to students from various parts of the region. The college is well-connected through the Chandigarh-Phagwara-Nakodar-Ferozpur highway, and it is just 11 kilometers away from National Highway (NH-1). Jandiala is a historically significant area, known for producing many freedom fighters and progressive thinkers, and it is also a hub for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) who have achieved success in various fields abroad. This rich heritage and cultural diversity contribute to the dynamic environment of the college, fostering a spirit of intellectual growth and innovation.

The college has made significant strides in improving its infrastructure, with the support of NRIs, former students through local organizations such as Lok Bhalai Manch, Jandiala (an NGO) and the Gram Panchayat. These efforts have led to extensive renovations that have enhanced the learning environment for students. A key initiative has been the sponsorship of 50 needy students from the general category by a group of NRIs and former students, ensuring that financial limitations do not hinder talented students from pursuing higher education. Additionally, students from SC/ST/OBC categories continue to benefit from the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme offered by the government, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunity for all.

The college offers a range of modern facilities to support students' academic and personal growth. These include well-equipped classrooms, computer labs, Wi-Fi facilities, and a seminar hall for workshops and events. The campus is also equipped with CCTV surveillance, ensuring a secure and conducive learning environment. The college library boasts a rich collection of textbooks, reference books, professional journals, and magazines, many of which date back to the college's founding in 1967. This extensive collection provides students with the resources they need to deepen their knowledge and pursue academic excellence.

Over the years, the leadership of the college has played a crucial role in its development. Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Randhawa took charge as the principal in 2022, followed by Dr. Jagsir Singh Brar, who assumed additional responsibilities in 2025. Each of these leaders, along with the dedicated faculty and staff, has worked tirelessly to ensure the college continues to evolve, meeting the changing needs of students while maintaining a high standard of education.

At Guru Gobind Singh ji University College, the mission is clear: to provide students with an ethical and professional education that equips them with the wisdom, knowledge, and discipline necessary for success in life. The college is committed to nurturing not only the mind but also the soul of every individual, shaping them into well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also socially responsible. As the college continues to move forward, it remains steadfast in its commitment to producing individuals who will make meaningful contributions to society.
